I’m in LA and I’m a glass of wine deep, so this is the best I can come up with at the moment…
There’s one thing that’s impossible not to notice when you come to Los Angeles: the people here are simply more attractive.
Left and right, I look up and see beautiful people, and I ask myself, how is it that everyone here is good looking?
Is it because they make more of an effort to look presentable? Is it because there’s a greater social pressure to look your best? Is it because attractive people tend to move to Los Angeles?
I understand that there’s a significant amount of people in LA who are interested in working in the entertainment or modeling industries, and those industries reward people who are more attractive. But it’s not only the young, aspiring actors and models who are attractive. Generally, people tend to care a little bit more about the way they look.
I don’t know if this is a good thing or a bad thing. I think there’s something to be said for taking pride in the way you look. When you look good, you feel good. But I also have to imagine that it would drive me a little crazy if there was pressure to look your best all the time.
I have to imagine that insecurity runs rampant in Los Angeles, which is also probably what makes it run in the first place.
But as they say, that’s showbiz baby.
