What new doors will you open?

Today, I found two videos that captivated me for entirely different reasons, yet they both revealed paths to entirely new lives I had never previously imagined.

The first video transported me to a cozy scene in Spain. A group of friends gathered around a table laden with empty Coke bottles, strumming guitars and singing harmoniously. At the far end of the table, a man, cigarette in hand, passionately belted out over the music. I could watch this mesmerizing scene for hours. The beauty of these friends enjoying each other's company and sharing their love for music was undeniable. Their smiles spoke volumes, revealing that they played not for an audience, but for each other.

The second video was created by a YouTuber named Matt Wolfe, in which he outlines the process he used to build a simple video game from scratch. In the 25-minute walkthrough, Matt asked ChatGPT questions and received code in return. When parts of the game malfunctioned, he would request refinements from ChatGPT until the code eventually worked. Despite the significant trial and error, Matt succeeded in building the framework for a simple game—accomplishing all of this without any prior coding experience. In the past, this achievement would have required weeks or even months of learning the necessary code, but Matt managed it in just a day or two.

Although these videos might seem unrelated at first glance, they both sparked similar feelings of inspiration within me. For instance, I could never in a million years picture myself sitting around a table on a warm summer evening, sipping a drink, and playing music with my friends in Philly. I don’t even know enough musicians in Philly for this to be a reality, and even if I did, this wouldn’t be everyone’s first activity of choice. Admittedly, I might be romanticizing the video, but music brings people together in a way that other things are not able to. The sense of camaraderie in the video is palpable. It made me ask myself: what’s stopping me from finding friends like this?

Similarly, I never envisioned a world where I could create a simple video game from scratch over the course of a weekend. My inability to code has always been a source of insecurity, particularly since I work in a tech-related field. This gap in my skillset often leaves me feeling disadvantaged in certain situations. However, ChatGPT offers a promising avenue for experimenting with coding without the need for years of learning various coding languages. While some might view this as a shortcut or even cheating, having a crutch to guide me is sometimes all I need to take the first step.

Based on these two videos alone, it feels like new doors opened for me today. The world is teeming with diverse people and opportunities, and as technology rapidly advances, the potential to live a life drastically different from my current one becomes increasingly possible.

All it takes is a little imagination and determination. What new doors will you open?
